Acid is a really good program. I use Cakewalk’s Sonar 5, but its even more expensive than Acid. Cubase is really good also, it runs about the same as Sonar. Cakewalk makes a pretty good basic program called Music Creator which is about $50 or so. I used it to make my first mixtape. It would work really well for what you are wanting to do without having to spend a few hundred bucks. It also is pretty user friendly, so it doesn’t take a lot to figure it out.
