I have Dell Inspiron 2650 (probably from 2002) running Windows XP home, 512 ram, 80 gb hdd. Due to space constraints, I am considering using laptop to DJ instead of the conventionals. Is there any way I can set it up on this machine? I am also willing to get new one, though preferrably something less than $800.
I’ve tried Virtual Turntables software before. It worked pretty well, though I’m wondering in case there are better options.

plug in your DJ system to your laptop go to windows media player then take all your CD’s and rip (copy them) them to the computer
One word: “Traktor”! Its a fantastic, industry standard DJ mixing software. You can use it with hotkeys or a midi-controller. Best of all, you can buy an interface and mix with CDJs or Turntables by using time-coded records (similar to Serato and Torq). I use it for a lot of my set-recordings at home. I’ve even taken it out to gigs…though I’m still more of a CD user in live situations due to a the set up hassle.
